ABOUT US

Dr. William McClintock (Medical Director/Pediatric Neurologist)

Dr. McClintock is a pediatric neurologist who was asked to help start the clinic by one of his patients' mother, Nancy Elling. Also a member of NTSA's Professional Advisory Board, he has seen about 50 TS patients in the past 12 years of his career. He finds the clinics especially worthwhile when he comes across difficult problems and is able to help people in such situations. The clinics are enjoyable because a number of physicians come by, and he has a chance to get to know them. In his spare time he pursues his hobbies, fly fishing and computers. Click here for more and don't miss his profile in Newsletter Archives.

Dr. Susan Black (Geneticist)

Dr. Black, who was recruited by Dr. McClintock, provides valuable information on genetic concerns such as having children and how TS can affect other family members. She has participated in clinics for various diseases throughout her career and likes the setup of the TS clinic in which a person with a specific problem can see many specialists at the same time. Originally from Canada, she practices at the Genetics & IVF Institute and has an extremely busy schedule. Click here for more.

Dr. David Daigh (Medical Co-Director/Pediatric Neurologist)

Dr. Daigh, who started the clinic with Dr. McClintock, works with the others to help you with both general and overall concerns you may have. Also a Professional Advisory Board member, he works closely with Vicky Whittemore in the Research and Grant Committee. He usually practices at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Click here for more.

Nancy Elling (Clinic Founder, Coordinator and Registered Nurse)

Nancy's idea to set up a clinic in Virginia arose after she took her youngest son to the Chicago TS Clinic run by Dr. Peter Huttenlocher and Linda Hamm (coordinator) to receive a second opinion. Enlisting the help of Frankie's doctors, Dr. Daigh and Dr. McClintock, she started the clinic so that others may receive the same security that she did when she went to Chicago to consult with knowledgeable doctors.

Dr. Micheal Medlock (Pediatric Neurosurgeon)

Dr. Medlock, also by the invitation of Dr. McClintock, recently joined the staff to help especially with cases in which surgical removal of mass lesions on the brain may be necessary. Because TS related lesions can become cancerous, pressurize surrounding areas, or induce severe seizures, he's had the occasion to deal with several TS cases, 10-20 patients in the past ten years. He has recently lectured for NTSA members on Brain-Mapping. If anyone would like to pursue the possibility of surgery, he is open to consultations. E-mail him or call him at (202)687-4972. You can click here to find out more about Dr. Medlock on the web site of Georgetown University Medical Center where he practices.

Dr. Phillip Pearl (Pediatric Neurologist)

After visiting a clinic session, Dr. Pearl, who practices with Dr. McClintock, decided that he would like to volunteer more of his time. We are very excited to have him participate in the clinic. Click here for more.

Dr.Robert Silverman (Dermatologist)

Just appointed to the NTSA, Professional Advisory Board, Dr. Silverman first became interested in tuberous sclerosis as a dermatologist with a special interest in pediatric skin diseases. Many seemingly minor alterations of the skin in children, which do not have serious consequences in themselves, may have significant underlying associations. He finds great satisfaction in being able to diagnose conditions such as TS through keen observations of the skin, and enjoys "putting the pieces of the puzzle together" in order to make a diagnosis. Click here for more.

Susan Taylor (Clinic Volunteer)

During the couple of years that Nancy Elling was in Texas, Susan took over and succeeded in keeping the clinic going. While she no longer takes care of the logistics, Nancy's volunteer partner continues to make the trip from Annapolis, MD four times a year to help out and meet people. A mother of a daughter with TS and a son with cerebral palsy, Susan keeps up with all of the current news and is very sympathetic and understanding. If you have any personal concerns or worries, she is a great person to share it with!

You can directly register through this site. Click here to find out more about the clinic.
